LEAF PICKUP:

It is once again leaf season and the Village asks for your cooperation in the gathering of leaves.  As in the past, please do not rake your leaves into the gutter or street but rather leave them near the edge of the roadway.  Also do not place sticks, brush, or grass clippings in with your leaves…these items should be placed in the Maharg Yard Waste Bags that are available at local stores.  Based on weather and availability, the Street Dept. will going around regularly to gather leaves, thus calls to the Village office are not necessary as we will get to them at our earliest opportunity.

BRUSH PICKUP:

            A few friendly reminders:

·       Pickup days will remain the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month – weather permitting.

·       This is not meant to be a service to cleanup all the brush from getting your trees trimmed.

·       Please remember to break up the small sticks and place them in garbage or yard waste bags whenever possible.

·       Do not use this service to put out your shrubs, plants, flowers, fruits, walnuts, acorns, etc.  This is meant for the larger pieces of limbs and brush only.  Whenever possible, all other items should be placed in yard waste bags.

NOTE FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT – MOTORIZED SCOOTERS:

The police department would like to remind citizens of the Village of Fort Recovery that motorized scooters and golf carts must be properly titled and registered under Ohio law to operate on a street or highway. In order for motorized scooters and golf carts to be titled, they must meet federal safety standard guidelines and meet the definition of a motorcycle or motor vehicle.  Along with proper title and registering of the vehicle, a valid operators license and/or motorcycle endorsement is required if applicable.  Please be advised that motorized scooters are prohibited from being operated on the sidewalk within the Village of Fort Recovery.  Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact Chief Hartings via phone, 419-375-2662, or e-mail, frpd@fortrecovery.org.

UPCOMING ELECTION DAY:

The positions of Mayor, Clerk/Treasurer, and Village Council will be on the November 4th ballot.  There are two mayoral candidates on the ballot – Roger Broerman, 614 S. Wayne Street and Robert Grile, 404 E. Center Street. Janet McCain is the single candidate running for the position of Clerk/Treasurer, a position she has held since 1986.  There are two council seats open at year end and only one candidate will be listed on the ballot.  Allen Post is running to renew his seat and the other opening will need to be appointed after the end of the year.  Anyone interested should let the administration know so that they may be considered come January.  A sincere “Thank You” to each of these individuals for their willingness to serve the Fort Recovery community and to our current Mayor John Wolf for providing excellent leadership to our Village over the past 12 years.

REMEMBER TO VOTE ON NOVEMBER 4TH…..THANK YOU!

MISCELLANEOUS NOTES & PROJECTS:

The work has been recently completed on the Center Street Reconstruction-Phase II Project that made great improvements to the 100 block of East Center Street.  The sewer system was separated, along with the addition of curbs, sidewalks and new street lamps, with final clean-up and seeding to be completed in the spring.  Also, asphalt overlay projects were completed on East Boundary Street and a portion of South Wayne Street, along with the much needed asphalt improvements to State Route 119 completed by ODOT this summer.

We continue to work on the preparation for the sanitary/storm separation project that will eliminate our current combined sewer system.  As can be imagined this will be a very large and expensive undertaking to complete the necessary trunk lines and achieve a separated system.  Our policy has been to separate these systems during the improvement on any street projects that were undertaken, thus giving us a great head start on completing the separation of the system.   We also will continue to monitor streets for necessary improvements and work to capitalize on any grant funding that may be available.

We have been notified by our trash hauler, Maharg’s Trash Service, that all garbage must be placed in the proper Maharg bag in order to be picked up.  He will no longer allow the Maharg bags to be tied to trash cans or other bags.  As stated in the contract with the Village, all garbage must be placed in the purchased Maharg bag in order to be collected.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Also, as snow plowing season nears, remember to check any trees or shrubs along the streets, alleys and sidewalks to see if they need trimmed back.  The Village workers will be going around and doing whatever trimming is necessary to keep the path along the street edge or curb open (ten feet clearance).  Also check out your sidewalks and make sure your shrubs or trees don’t hang down over the walkways.  Thank you.

As always we welcome your input and invite you to our Council meetings on the first and third Mondays of each month, 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall.  If you have any specific concerns or questions, feel free to contact Randy, Mayor Wolf or any of the Council Members.
