About Us

You are invited to enjoy the Fort Recovery experience. Step back in time as you stroll along our historic downtown with its quaint shops and modern stores. Fort Recovery's downtown area is thriving and friendly business community. Continuing improvements and renovations add to the beauty of downtown area. You will find our pace a little slower, people a little friendlier and somehow our food a little more tasty. Enjoy a leisurely walk through Historic Fort Recovery, or just spend a relaxing afternoon in one of our beautiful parks.

Located in the southwest corner of Mercer County, Ohio, Fort Recovery is the site of two of the most dramatic Indian battles in American History which were the devastating defeat of General Arthur St. Clair in 1791 and the successful defense of the fort by General Anthony Wayne in 1794.

The village lies on the northwest corner of Greenville Treaty Line. To preserve its significant place in history, there is a state museum, a stockade, and a 101 ft. replica of the obelisk Washington Monument built by congress in 1912 over the graves of 900 U.S. soldiers who died in the battles at Fort Recovery. Other points of interest include the newly dedicated VanTrees Park, Pioneer Cemetery and a few miles south of town, the headwaters of the great Wabash River.

With over 200 years of history to observe, we invite you to bring your family and friends and share in the memories and experiences of our proud heritage.

The Village of Fort Recovery is located in beautiful rural Mercer County, Ohio, yet is within easy reach to many metropolitan areas in Ohio and Indiana. With a strong focus on our “quality of life”, Fort Recovery with its deep history, strong and highly awarded school system, a vibrant downtown business district, a strong industrial base, and a great deal of pride in our homes, parks and community make it the type of place that is great to live, work and raise a family.
